The V20 2022 Summit faces at least two crucial challenges at the global level.
First is the Russia-Ukraine war that has caused a series of food and energy crises. Second is the long-recognized challenge of climate change. Countries surely cannot deal with these problems single handedly. They require multilateral approaches and agreements.
Another urgent matter that requires constant monitoring is the process of global recovery in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic that has distressed the world since March 2020.
In dealing with these issues, V20 believes that integrity, accountability, fairness, service, compassion, and gotong royong (sense of community) are values that we must hold firmly as the foundation for a sustainable global recovery.
In addition to health, the world is also eagerly anticipating a post-pandemic economic recovery. Deputy SOEs Minister Kartika Wirjoatmodjo encourages national and global business actors to apply the value of virtue in their businesses’ steps and decision-making. “Today, business ecosystems are facing many global challenges, especially for the post-pandemic recovery. To be able to address all challenges, business strategies implementation must be based on strong and effective values,” he said.
For example, “The SOEs Ministry encourages several strategic initiatives to be based on the values of AKHLAK, which is short for Amanah, Kompeten, Harmonis, Loyal, Adaptif, Kolaboratif (Trust, Competency, Harmony, Loyalty, Adaptiveness, Collaboration), which are closely related to Indonesian state ideology of Pancasila. As educating these values takes a long time, they must be embedded as early as possible. Hopefully, this can become a national-scale program, giving it the ability to push Indonesia into becoming a strong, developed country by 2045,” Kartika emphasized.
