Electric Motorcycle Priced at Rp16mn Will Attract Consumers: Minister

September 28, 2022 | 04:21 pm

TEMPO.CO, JakartaTransportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi encouraged the industrial sector, universities, and stakeholders to collaborate and produce electric motorcycles and cars at affordable prices. He opined that this is necessary to expedite the conversion of fossil fuel vehicles to electric vehicles.

According to the minister, an electric motorbike priced at Rp16 million and equipped with a good quality battery will attract the public’s interest. There are three ways to realize this.

“First, produce a battery with a competitive price but has a high cruising range. Secondly, develop domestic motorcycles. Thirdly, increase [the number of] battery charging stations,” said the minister in a written statement, Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

He hoped that the sale of electric motorcycles and cars at economical prices can create an equilibrium, meaning that there will be a balance between the production and the user.

A surge in production and users of electric vehicles, Budi believed, might lead to a great future. Thus, he appreciated the collaborative efforts between universities, researchers, and the industrial sector that support the government in the creation of an electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia. Besides, the government has encouraged the acceleration of the use of electric vehicles by issuing several regulations and policies.

“Regulations and policies from the government, as well as studies and research from universities, will be complete when the industry makes innovations and seizes opportunities for the electric vehicle industry which has potential in sight,” said Budi Karya.
