TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Affairs Mahfud MD on Wednesday asserted that the passing of the Personal Data Protection Bill (RUU PDP) into law was not motivated by the recent series of hacks by a hacker under the pseudonym Bjorka.
“The PDP Act is a long-awaited law and it has nothing to do with the data leaks. It was formulated far before the brouhaha surrounding Bjorka. It is now ratified by the House of Representatives and only awaits a plenary meeting,” said Mahfud MD after attending a public discussion in Surabaya on September 21.
Asked about the series of data breaches, the Minister defensively answered that not one state document was leaked online by the hacker.
“Did Bjorka leak government data? No,” said the Minister.
The House of Representatives has previously passed the personal data protection bill in the fifth plenary meeting of the 2022-2023 period on Tuesday, September 20.
The final draft of the bill that was first formulated in 2016 consists of 371 problem inventory lists and has 16 Chapters and 76 Articles.
