TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian railway company, PT KAI Commuter Indonesia (KCI), plans to set up a bike shelter to facilitate the customers of Commuter Line who bring bicycles, to prevent loss in the train station area.
KCI Vice President, Teguh, in a discussion under the theme of "Realizing Bike Friendly Station" in Jakarta on Friday, Sept. 16, extended the apology for the inconvenience caused by the incidents of missing bikes parked at the KRL stations.
"Our apologies for the inconvenience of the service for cyclists in the KCI station area," he said as reported by Antara.
Teguh said his side is relocating the bike park area in 10 stations to be closer to the monitoring of the station security officers. In addition, KRL has reopened the previously closed bike parking area due to the rampant bicycle loss incidents.
KRL stations, in the near future, will prepare keys for the bicycles parking in the stations. The system is that the key will be exchanged for a card like a train card for key exchange.
Meanwhile, in the long term, KCI has designed a bike shelter to park the customers' bicycles and lockers for the comfort and safety of KRL customers.
The chairperson of a cycling community Bike 2 Work Indonesia, Fahmi Saimima, said that there were 27 reports of bike loss at train station areas in Jakarta Greater Area since 2021.
Fahmi added that the station management could not be held responsible for the missing bicycles.
Lastly, the station management will close the bicycle parking racks as they aim to audit the reports on the recent bike loss cases.
