15 September 2022 17:54 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaTempo launched today a documentary film entitled Kilometer 50 on its Youtube channel Tempodotco. The 51-minute video tells the story of the fatal shooting of six Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) members by the police at the KM 50 of Jakarta-CIkampek toll road.

The case has recently drawn the public spotlight again after the alleged premeditated murder case of Brigadier J was revealed. In this police shooting, Ferdy Sambo as the former head of the professional and security division of the National Police was named a suspect.

Sambo previously served as the director of general crimes of the National Police and also handled the KM 50 case.

Here are three facts about the KM 50 incident:

1. 6 citizens died

Six members of the now-defunct organization were shot dead by the police. They were Andi Oktiawan (33), Ahmad Sofiyan (26), Lutfi Hakim (25), Faiz Ahmad Syukur (22), Muhammad Suci Khadavi (21), and Muhammad Reza (20).

There was allegedly a shootout between the FPI members and the police which was evident from the finding of several bullet casings about three kilometers from the crime scene.

2. A witness swore that he saw the victims alive

An eyewitness around the Jakarta-Cikampek toll road at kilometer 50 claimed to have seen the six members alive. One of the witnesses questioned by Koran Tempo said he tried to approach a Chevrolet car driven by the FPI members but was stopped by the police who said they were dealing with terrorists.

“I swear that they were still alive at that time,” said the witness who also saw the police take out their weapons.

3. Suspected perpetrators were acquitted

Two police officers, First Brigadier (Briptu) Fikri Ramadhan and Second Police Inspector (Ipda) Mohammad Yusmin Ohorella, were named suspects in this case.

The Supreme Court, however, acquitted them from charges as they were considered to have exercised self-defense.

Public prosecutor Zet Tadung Allo said he respected the acquittal as the final settlement of the Kilometer 50 case. Yet this case, which could be classified as extra-judicial killing, has the potential to be reopened if new evidence is found.
