Former Banten Governor Ratu Atut Released on Parole

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah was released on parole from the Tangerang IIA Penitentiary on Tuesday, September 6.
"Yes, today he has been released from prison with a parole program," Rika Aprianti, head of PR and protocol at the Directorate General of Corrections, Tuesday, 6 September.
Rika said that even though she is free, Atut must follow the guidance issued by the Serang Penitentiary until July 8, 2025.
According to Rika, Atut must not violate her parole conditions or her parole program will be revoked and she will have to go back to prison to serve the remainder of her sentence.
Ratu Atut was sentenced to four years in prison and a fine of Rp200 million on September 1, 2014. She was found guilty of bribing Akil Mochtar, then Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court. Atut gave Rp1 billion to Akil for handling a dispute over the regional election in Lebak, Banten. In 2015, the Supreme Court extended her sentence to seven years.
In addition to bribing Akil, Ratu Atut was also sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in prison after being found guilty of corruption in the procurement of medical equipment at the Banten Provincial Referral Hospital and extorting Rp500 million from her subordinates for investigation fees.
Ratu Atut was one of the corruptors who received remission for the 77th Indonesian Independence Day. Her sentence was reduced by 3 months.
Rika Aprianti said that Ratu Atut was given the parole after the Directorate General of Corrections considered her as meeting the substantive and administrative requirement.
Tangerang II A Prison's warden, Yekti Apriyanti, confirmed that Ratu Atut started her parole program today. Yekti said that the reintegration program today she received was in accordance with applicable regulations.
