TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) on Thursday recorded Indonesia had experienced a 0.21 percent monthly deflation (mtm) which is affected by the drop in prices of commodities such as garlic, chilly pepper, cooking oil, and chicken meat.
“On a monthly basis, this deflation is the deepest it gets since September 2019 which at the time logged 0.27 percent,” said BPS Head Margo Yuwono on Thursday, August 2.
Meanwhile, on an annual basis, inflation in August reached 4.69 percent, and on a calendar year basis 3.63 percent. Previously, the Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo predicted that inflationary pressure would continue to grow as time passes.
By the end of 2022, inflation is expected to approach the 5 percent level. Perry said the inflation rate is also at risk of exceeding the 4 percent level, along with global uncertainty that is still very high.
Perry said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in the coordination meeting of the Central and Regional Inflation Control Teams had given directions to immediately take steps to control food inflation, with the National Movement for Food Inflation Control, inter-regional cooperation, market operations, using emergency budgets in local governments to control food inflation.
