Jakarta Sees 0.06 % Deflation in September

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Office of Statistics Indonesia (BPS) announced that the capital city recorded 0.06 percent deflation in September 2021 amid the relaxed public mobility restrictions or PPKM Level 3. In August, the city posted inflation of 0.08 percent.
“The aggregate price of goods and services in Jakarta decreased by 0.06 percent in September,” said Jakarta BPS Head Buyung Airlangga in Jakarta, Friday, October 10.
Buyung said Jakarta’s neighboring regions also experienced deflation, including Bekasi at 0.1 percent, Depok at 0.07 percent, Bogor City at 0.1 percent, and Tangerang at 0.07 percent. “Jakarta and its surrounding cities have the same dynamic in price developments.”
The three main commodities contributing to deflation in Jakarta were eggs (0.06 percent), gold and jewelry (0.02 percent), and chicken meat (0.03 percent).
During the current year (year to date) from January to September 2021, Jakarta experienced inflation of 0.59 percent. Meanwhile, compared to September 2020, the city recorded inflation of 1.14 percent.
Jakarta BPS previously noted that the city posted deflation of minus 0.27 percent in June 2021 and minus 0.04 percent in July 2021. In August 2021, there was inflation of 0.08 percent, indicating the economic improvement following the limited reopening of malls and shopping centers as well as social assistance and business stimuli.
