Police Arrest 15 People after Teenager Killed during Bekasi Youth Brawl

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Bekasi City Police arrested 15 people suspected of assaulting AN, a 17-year-old, to his death during a youth brawl, known as tawuran in Indonesia. The incident took place in I Gusti Ngurah Rai Road, West Bekasi, on early Sunday morning, August 14, at around 3:00 West Indonesia Time.
In a statement released on Monday, August 15, Bekasi City Police chief, Comr. Salahuddin, said that in addition to AN there is another teenager who suffered heavy injuries from the incident.
After arresting the 15 youths involved in the brawl, Salahuddin hoped that there would be no more brawls. He asked the public to participate and report any incident of tawuran.
"Hopefully this will be the last time. My hope is that the people will help during situations like this by contacting the police," he said.
In earlier reports, it was said that AN and his friend was passing through I Gusti Ngurah Rai Road when members of two gangs were clashing. He had tried to avoid them but was caught up in the fight that led to his death.
