TEMPO.CO, Semarang - A resident in Pati Regency, Central Java, was suspected of being infected with monkeypox and is now undergoing isolation at a local hospital.
The Head of the Central Java Health Agency, Yunita Dyah Suminar, confirmed the news. “The person’s still suspected [of being infected with monkeypox],” she said on Thursday, August 4, 2022.
According to Yunita, the patient presented symptoms similar to that of the viral disease. “The person got a fever, red patches on the skin, and dizziness,” she explained.
The person also had no history of traveling abroad.
Previously reported, Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo stated that a resident who was allegedly exposed to the virus tested negative after undergoing the polymerase chain reaction or PCR test.
He encouraged the public to stay vigilant and always implement a healthy lifestyle. “If having symptoms [of monkeypox], immediately check it [to the hospital],” he underlined.
Ganjar also asked the central government to tighten the security at the entrance gates to Indonesia because monkeypox has spread rapidly in dozens of countries.
