Army Deserter Allegedly Involved in Deadly Attack Against Papua Civilians

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - An Indonesian Army (TNI AD) deserter Yotam Bugiangge had reportedly joined a local armed criminal group (KKB) in Papua led by Egianus Kogoya and is believed to be involved in the deadly attack against civilians in the Nduga region which killed 10 people.
"It is true that there are reports of a former TNI soldier joining the KKB in attacking civilians, killing 10 people in Nogoloid, Saturday (July 16)," said Director of General Crimes at the Papua Police, Commissioner Faizal Rahmadani, in Jayapura, Wednesday, July 20, Antaranews reported.
The crime scene investigation, he said, that was carried out, and witness statements that were obtained revealed that the two people, Kogoya and Bugiangge, were suspected of being the masterminds of the attack in Nduga.
"Egianus Kogoya and Yotam Bugiangge have joined forces and jointly attacked civilians," said Rahmadani.
As reported on July 16, an armed criminal group shot at civilians at the Nogolait village killing 10 people and injuring two others.
The Army deserter was initially posted at the Keerom Regency in Papua from December 17, 2021, and took with him an SS1 V1 caliber 5.56 mm.
