TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Jaya Police Chief Insp. Gen. Fadil Imran said the disclosure of the land mafia cases stemmed from many unresolved agrarian conflicts in the capital.
“This started with many unresolved agrarian conflicts,” he said at a press conference at the Jakarta Metro Jaya Police HQ, South Jakarta, Monday, July 18, 2022.
He also said the case was also attributable to the widespread practice of the land mafia and the low number of certified land according to BPN data. In 2016, he revealed that only 46 percent of the total 26 million land plots had been registered.
“And what needs to be underlined is that in the end, the people fall victim due to the actions of a group or individual,” he added.
Another reason, Fadil continued, was the lack of land purchasing power which resulted in problems. On this basis, President Joko Widodo or Jokowi established a PTSL program or complete systematic land registration aimed at providing legal certainty over land rights owned by the community.
"It boosts financial inclusion, makes land a bankable asset, facilitates access to capital, and so on,” said Fadil. “The President really wants to encourage economic growth and regional growth as well as tax revenue.”
“We, the Regional Police, as ordered by the Police Chief, will continue to support ATR/BPN (the National Land Agency) under the leadership of Pak Hadi Tjahjanto," he said.
