TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said the proposal for establishing Greater Jakarta, which merges Depok with Jakarta, is under the authority of the central government.
“We, the Jakarta provincial government, completely let the policy to the central government,” he said at the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Building, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, July 12, 2022.
Previously, Depok Mayor Mohammad Idris suggested that Jakarta and its neighboring regions be merged into Greater Jakarta, hoping that problems in the buffer zones will be easily resolved after the merger.
“This is my idea that to succeed in developing Jakarta and its surroundings, unite them into Greater Jakarta,” said Idris as quoted from Antara.
Riza thus thanked for Idris's suggestion. He opined that the capital and its supporting areas are not easily separated. Policies involving Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) are always discussed together.
For example, Riza went on, policies related to the COVID-19 pandemic, transportation, flood control, and city planning. The Gerindra Party politician claimed he did not see Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi as a burden for Jakarta.
“Any problems that exist in the buffer zone are our problems that we must solve together,” Riza Patria said.
