TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian National Police (Polri) spokesperson Sr. Comr. Nurul Azizah in a press conference on Monday said ACT or Aksi Cepat Tanggap can generate Rp60 billion from the multiple public donations the charity group receives each month, which the police suspect are embezzled by charity organizers.
“The donations stem from members of the public in the form of public donations, partnership donations, national and international companies, foreign and domestic institutions or corporations, communities, and donations from members,” said Nurul on July 11.
According to Nurul, the total amount of money donated to ACT can reach up to Rp60 billion each month and ACT will take 10-20 percent (Rp6 billion-Rp12 billion) as organizational fees to pay for the wages of its employees and management. This alleged public donation embezzlement is currently being investigated by the police.
“We will also audit the finances of fund sources managed by ACT for the 68 heirs the victims of the Lion Air Boeing JT-610 air crash that happened on October 18, 2018, that amount to Rp138 billion, or Rp2 billion for each heir,” she said.
The police are suspicious that ACT did not materialize the entire Boeing compensation for families of the air crash victims. “Instead, some of the compensation money was used to pay the wages of its chairperson, management, ACT institution staff, funding facilities, and [the funds] were also used to support the facilities, activities, and personal interests of its chairman, president A, and vice president IK,” said Nurul Azizah.
