TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan ensured that the 42,000 animals for Qurbani that have entered the capital are safe from foot and mouth disease (FMD) because they have passed inspection procedures including quarantine.
“The [outbreak] status for Jakarta remains green, and Jakarta is safe from FMD,” said Anies at the launching event of the food support program in Jakarta, Monday, July 4, 2022.
Jakarta needs around 47,000 Qurbani animals. “The rest 5,000 animals are on the way and predicted to be ready before Eid al-Adha,” Anies added.
The former minister of education and culture appreciated the efforts made by the central government to create a program that supports food needs for local governments, including Jakarta as the first target location. Anies explained that more than 95 percent of food needs in the capital are supplied from outside the region.
Jakarta, he continued, highly contributed to the national economy, reaching 18 percent. For this reason, the food supply must be ensured in a bid to maintain price stability. If food demand in Jakarta is not maintained, it is feared that it will lead to national inflation.
“We are serene when prices are more stable. If prices are stable then inflation is under control. If the inflation rate in Jakarta is controlled with its contribution to the national gross domestic product (GDP) of around 18 percent, the national inflation rate will also be under control,” Anies Baswedan said.
