Indonesia to Hold Isbat Meeting to Determine Eid al-Adha Today

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Religious Affairs Ministry will hold an isbat or confirmation meeting to determine Eid al-Adha 1443 Hijri which falls on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah today afternoon, June 29, 2022.
As one of the references in determining the Islamic day of sacrifice, the visual observation of the new moon or rukyatul hilal of Dhul Hijjah will be conducted in 86 locations throughout the archipelago.
The seminar on the position of a crescent moon will start at 17:00 Jakarta time and be followed by the isbat meeting at 18:15 and a press conference at 19:05.
“On the day of rukyat (observation day), the height of the new moon in all parts of Indonesia above the horizon ranges from 0 degrees 52 minutes to 3 degrees 13 minutes, with an elongation angle of 4.27 degrees to 4.97 degrees,” said the Director of Islamic Religious Affairs and Sharia Development Adib via a written statement quoted on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.
The Head of Hisab Rukyat and Sharia Sub-Directorate Ismail Fahmi added that the isbat meeting at HM Rasjidi Auditorium of the ministry’s building, Jakarta, will be attended by a number of ambassadors of neighboring countries, Commission VIII of the House of Representatives (DPR), Supreme Court, Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), and the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
“The meeting will also be attended by the Geospatial Information Agency, Bandung Institute of Technology's (ITB) Bosscha Observatory, Planetarium, falak or astronomy experts from Islamic organizations, related institutions and agencies, members of the ministry’s Hijri Calendar Unification Team, and leaders of Islamic organizations and Islamic boarding schools,” Ismail said of meeting on the day of Eid al-Adha.
