Indonesia, South Korea Advances New Capital City Project Collaboration

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta -  The Public Works and Housing (PUPR) Minister Basuki Hadimuljono in a written statement on Tuesday announced the start of basic infrastructure construction of the new capital city of Nusantara will commence in August this year. 

This was mentioned as Minister Basuki welcomed the South Korean delegates led by Assistant Minister for Road, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Lee Yoon-Sang in Jakarta, Antaranews reported. 

“Apart from the SHMS (Structural Health Monitoring System) and ITS (Intelligent Transport Systems), basic design and feasibility studies for the [new capital’s] access roads will be prioritized as we will start the infrastructure construction in August of 2022,” said the Minister. 

In terms of the construction of the new capital that will adopt a “smart city” concept, Lee Yoon-Sang said a memorandum of understanding has been signed between Indonesia and South Korea. 

Lee also mentioned that a technical study will be conducted by their directors and researchers at the location to “Expand the collaboration between the two countries,” said Lee. 

The South Korean delegation's visit to Indonesia on Monday, June 20, 2022, was part of the 17th Indonesia-Korea Road Conference, which is a bilateral technical cooperation between the Indonesian Ministry of PUPR and the South Korean Ministry of Construction and Transportation.
