Port Company Permit Revoked Over Coal Dust Pollution

21 June 2022 08:27 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Jakarta Provincial Government has officially revoked the loading and unloading permit of public port Karya Citra Nusantara (KCN) in Marunda, North Jakarta, over the coal dust pollution in recent months that affected neighboring residential areas.

Head of the Jakarta Environmental Agency Asep Kuswanto explained that this decision was issued in accordance with the instruction from Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan. He also asserted the provincial government’s stance on environmental sustainability above all else.

“This letter is also issued with the consideration that the proportion of items repaired/done during the administrative sanction period was not fully implemented by PT KCN,” he wrote in a statement on June 20.

Asep added that during the period of imposition of sanctions, the DKI Jakarta DLH and the North Jakarta Environmental Agency were actively monitoring and supervising the steps taken by PT KCN. As a result, PT KCN has not carried out the administrative sanction order, so that the implementation of the sanction is weighted by issuing the decree.

According to Asep, PT KCN had to stop all loading and unloading activities because the environmental permit was declared invalid.
