TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Energy and Mineral Resources or ESDM Ministry announced that the government did not increase electricity tariffs for subsidized customers.
“We only focus on non-subsidized groups. We don't touch the subsidized one at all, meaning that there is no price hike or price adjustment in it” said the Director-General of Electricity Rida Mulyana in a virtual press conference on Monday, June 13, 2022.
According to him, the government is determined to maintain the purchasing power of the people in the category of customers who received electricity subsidies.
“We are indeed obliged by the state to always protect people through financial instruments in the form of subsidies,” Rida added.
President Director of state-owned electricity firm PLN Darmawan Prasodjo also confirmed that the electricity price for customers below the 3,500-volt-ampere category would not be adjusted.
“No change in the electricity tariffs of those below 3,500 VA category,” said Darmawan on the same occasion.
Previously on May 20, 2022, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani said that electricity customers above 3000 VA would see price increases. However, the policy would raise the budget allocation of compensation subsidies up to Rp350 trillion in order to maintain people's purchasing power and economic recovery.
