TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Child Protection Commission (KPAI) commissioner Retno Listyarti on Thursday said the government must evaluate the physical school attendance policy, especially amidst reports on the suspected acute hepatitis cases recently discovered.
Retno said in a written statement that schools should urge school students and parents to maintain general hygiene that will help protect against the spread of the disease.
“Make sure that food and drinks that are consumed are cooked properly and not share cutleries with others to prevent contact between our children,” Retno said on May 12.
This is based on the official circular (SE) HK.02.02/C/2515/2022 on the precautions on the finding of cases of acute hepatitis of unknown aetiology, that has been distributed across health agencies.
KPAI also suggested the use of Covid-19 health protocols that can help in the hepatitis situation as it would help students maintain safe distances from each other and reduce mobility.
"Schools can cooperate with the nearest Puskesmas (community health centers) to help local governments to socialize the prevention of the acute hepatitis virus, which mainly attacks the gastrointestinal tract and respiratory tract," she said.
