TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said that the tourism sector gradually recovered during the Eid holidays. He said that local tourists had started flocking to local destinations, generating Rp72 trillion in money circulation.
According to Sandiaga, the return of Eid homecoming or mudik season after two years of restriction created a good business opportunity for Indonesian tourism. The tourist areas along mudik trails were also packed with visitors.
"There was a money circulation of around Rp72 trillion. All tourist destinations were full," Sandiaga said in Jakarta during his ministry's weekly press briefing on Monday, May 9.
Sandiaga estimated that the money circulation in Bali alone would reach Rp250 billion. Meanwhile, destinations in Jakarta such as Ragunan, Ancol, and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah also experienced an increase in visits.
"We will calculate the detailed economic impact soon," said Sandiaga.
Previously, Sandiaga had predicted that the rate of visits to tourist villages will increase by around 30-40 percent during the Eid holiday.
