TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The traffic flow of people returning from their Eid homecoming or mudik travels is expected to start today, May 5. The Jakarta Metro Police are predicting the peak of vehicles returning to Jakarta will be on Sunday, May 8, with some 269,000 vehicles entering the capital.
Jakarta Metro Police PR chief, Sr. Comr. Pol. Endra Zulpan, said that during the peak period 269,000 vehicles will enter Jakarta, an increase of 5 percent compared to 2019's mudik return peak.
"The peak of the returning period is predicted to occur on the fifth day after Eid or on May 8, 2022, which is 269,000 vehicles," Zulpan said on Thursday.
The Jakarta Metro Police predicted a total of two million vehicles will be en route to the city until the tenth day after Eid. The estimate is based on the police's data from four toll gates that travelers will pass through when returning to Jakarta.
"The predicted number of vehicles returning to Jakarta through the four main toll gates (Cikupa, Ciawi, Cikatama, Kalitama) on from the second to the tenth day after Eid is 2 million vehicles," he said.
The Cikampek Toll Main Gate is the area estimated to see the highest number of vehicles returning to Jakarta and its surrounding areas.
