TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former special staffer of then-minister of health Terawan Agus Putranto, Jajang Edy Prayitno, declared an association of Indonesian doctors dubbed PDSI on Wednesday, April 27. PDSI has been approved by the Law and Human Rights Ministerial Decree No. AHU-003638.AH.01.07.2022.
Jajang denied that the organization he founded was aimed at competing with the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI), which is the only national and independent medical professional organization in the archipelago as regulated in the Medical Practice Law No. 29 of 2004.
“We don't feel like we are competing [with IDI],” said Jajang when contacted by Tempo, Wednesday, April 27.
He explained that PDSI was established over concerns following the dismissal of former Health Minister Terawan from IDI membership.
“We established PDSI in accordance with the mandate of Article 28 of the 1945 Constitution on the freedom of association and assembly, due to the recent uproar among health professionals. Yes, [one of which was the Terawan vs IDI case],” Jajang said.
In order to answer the concerns, he informed that PDSI came with a vision to become a pioneer of Indonesian medical reform.
Jajang said PDSI would also welcome Terawan to join the association after being expelled by IDI. In line with its vision and mission, PDSI would support Terawan's various innovations, one of which is supporting and facilitating Terawan's 'brainwash' therapy research to treat stroke patients.
