Motorcycle Theft by Hypnosis Goes Viral; Victim Dropped Off in Banten

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A CCTV footage went viral as it showed a motorbike rider being hypnotized, and had his motorcycle and phone stolen. The incident took place in Cengkareng, West Jakarta on Monday, 18 April 2022. The police are now on the case to see if a crime actually happened
In the video, the victim—wearing a white T-shirt—was shown to be riding his motorbike with the hypnotizer—who wore a black T-shirt—on the back seat. The video also showed how the thief had control over the victim, telling them to switch position—the thief driving, the victim behind.
"The victim was taken to Cipondoh, Tangerang, Banten, and was dropped off in front of a convenience store," said an explanation on the video, which was uploaded yesterday, April 20.
The Cengkareng Police's head of crimes unit, First Inspector Rahmat, said he had not received any report about the hypnotic theft of motorbikes and cell phones. However, the police have searched the location to verify whether the information is true.
Rahmat reminded the public to be more careful as Eid approaches, and usually more crimes take place. He asked people to be extra alert and more wary of strangers.
