TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II (AP II) is preparing to open Terminal IB of Soekarno-Hatta Airport after the reopening of Terminal IA today, April 1.
AP II senior manager of branch communication and legal, M Holik Muardi, said Terminal 1B will be reopened if the number of passengers continued to increase.
“The operation [of the airport’s terminal] is an anticipatory measure for passengers' number hike during Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1443 H,” said Holik.
He said the company will consider the reopening of Terminal 1B if the passengers traffic at the international airport reaches 140,000 per day this week.
Earlier reported, AP II recorded the highest passenger traffic during the COVID-19 pandemic in Soekarno-Hatta airport on Sunday, March 27, amounting to 124,000 passengers per day.
Holik also said the airport was swarmed by more than 100,000 passengers in the past week, both arriving and departing. The figure reflected 70 percent of the number of passengers in normal times or before the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the pandemic, Soekarno-Hatta Airport usually accommodated 60,000-70,000 passengers per day.
