Human Cage Case; Police Detain Langkat Regent's Son, 7 Other Suspects

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The authorities have eventually decided to detain eight suspects in the human cage case committed by Langkat Regent Terbit Rencana Perangin Angin. One of the suspects is the Regent's son, Dewa Perangin Angin.
The investigators of North Sumatra Police detained the eight suspects following their examination done from Friday until Saturday morning, March 25-26.
"Everyone of them will be detained," said Hadi to Tempo on Saturday, March 26.
Meanwhile, the attorney for the 8 suspects, Sangap Surbakti, has not provided an explanation as to whether to carry out a pretrial following the detention of the suspects. But he said yesterday that he would consider a pretrial if his clients are detained.
Sangap said the eight suspects, including Dewa, were asked 30 questions about the cage dwellers by the investigators. The suspects are charged with Law on human trafficking eradication.
The North Sumatra Police named 8 suspects over the death of the cage dwellers at the house of former Langkat Regent Terbit Rencana. They are HS, IS, TS, RG, JS, DP, and HG, who are charged with Law No. 21/2007 on human trafficking eradication. Meanwhile, suspect SP is charged with Law No. 21/2007 with a maximum sentence of 15 years.
