Two Policemen Killing FPI Members Acquitted from Charges, Jakarta Court Rules

18 March 2022 13:50 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe South Jakarta District Court on Friday, March 18 acquitted two police officers Fikri Ramadhan and M Yusmin Ohorella, who were indicted of shooting four members of the now-disbanded organization FPI.

First Police Brigadier (Briptu) Fikri Ramadhan and Second Police Inspector (Ipda) Mohammad Yusmin Ohorella presented online with their legal counsel in the verdict hearing which was held today morning.

“[The court] releases the defendant from all charges and restores the defendant's rights. And determines that all evidence is returned to the public prosecutor,” said presiding judge Muhammad Arif Nuryanta.

The Public Prosecutor previously demanded a criminal sentence of six years in prison. The prosecutor charged the two police officers with Article 338 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 (1) 1 of Law No. 1 of 1946 concerning the Regulation of Criminal Law.

Fikri Ramadhan and Yusmin Ohorella were tried for the unlawful killing of four FPI members. The two policemen's lawyer, Henry Yosodiningrat, said the shooting had to be carried out as an act of self-defense as four FPI members attacked them during the arrest.
