TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Covid-19 transmissions in Indonesia show a declining trend. In the past 24 hours, on Saturday, March 12, at 12:00, it logged 14,900 new Covid cases, which was a decrease from Friday last week at 16,110 cases.
However, the additional number was still considered high, as Indonesia had previously recorded below 1,000 cases per day at the end of last year until early January 2022.
The total Covid-19 cases in the country reached 5,878,910, since the first Coronavirus infections on March 2, 2020.
Meanwhile, the task force announced that 33,733 people recovered from the disease, totaling the number of recoveries until today to 5,369,579.
But the number of Covid death was also high. In the past 24 hours, 248 patients succumbed to the illness, raising the toll to 151,951 cases.
The government also monitored 14,812 Covid suspects. Besides, 211,102 specimens related to Coronavirus were tested today.
Indonesia's Covid-19 case experienced an increasing trend early this year following the Omicron infection. In the past three months, the highest daily transmission was 48,000 on February 20, 2022.
The government even had tightened Covid regulations for travelers, especially those arriving from abroad. International travelers must perform quarantine for 10 days, at that time.
Due to the declining number of Covid-19 transmission, the Indonesian government has now loosened the regulations related to Covid. On March 8, it announced the revocation of PCR or antigen test mandate for travelers of land, sea, and air transportation if they received complete primary vaccination. The government even tested out Bali as the initiator that implements no-quarantine tourism for foreign visitors.
