TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia managed to suppress the number of confirmed Covid-19 cases at below 20,000. On March 11, it recorded 16,110 cases from 21,311 cases on the previous day.

"There's an improvement in national Covid-19 mitigation from day-to-day. The number of confirmed cases reached under 20,000. The downward trend must be maintained so that the Covid-19 pandemic can be passed quickly,” said Covid vaccination spokesperson, Siti Nadia Tarmidzi, in a written statement on Saturday, March 12.

Until Thursday, Nadia said, the number of provinces reporting decreasing confirmed cases added to 27 provinces from previously 25 provinces. "Now, only 7 provinces that reported increasing daily cases." Besides, 29 provinces reported a decreasing number of hospitalization and only 5 provinces recorded an increasing trend of Covid hospitalization.

The high recovery rate and decreasing trend of active cases also affected the hospital bed occupancy rate nationally that decreasing to 24 percent.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry is intensifying the primary and booster vaccinations in order to suppress the transmission rate.
