TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google Indonesia on Tuesday said that a series of data analysis by the internet search giant implies that Indonesian consumers are adapting to a hybrid lifestyle where online and offline boundaries become more irrelevant.
Yolanda Sastra, Google Indonesia ads marketing head, said the conclusion is based on data from Google Trends, eConomy 2021, and Google Destination Insights that were presented at an event touted the Year in Search 2021.
“The Indonesian society adopted technology to improve the hybrid lifestyle and most of them [spend more time] at home,” said Yolanda on February 22.
The nature of staying home as a byproduct of the Covid-19 pandemic’s health precaution made Indonesian users more aware about improving the quality of their homes which is based on the number of people improving their homes with smart technologies.
Awareness towards online security had also increased as 33 percent of searches for the keyword looked for “data leaks” and 52 percent for the word “hoax.” Google searches for smart TVs were also a majority.
Yolanda also revealed that YouTube searches on content creating guidelines had increased by 90 percent, which the company believes is due to the majority of people exploring possibilities of becoming content creators.
Other popular Google Indonesia searches throughout the end of 2020 until 2021 were for supporting equipment to adapt to pandemic regulations as most users searched for laptops, mobile phones, and personal computer parts upgrades such as laptop webcams for remote learning.
