TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan in the Urban U20 dialogue at the Jakarta International Stadium said he aimed at seeing the capital city achieve net-zero emissions by making the public transportation sector a backbone for public mobility.
Jakarta is set to host the Urban 20 (U20) Mayors Summit 2022, which is part of the G20 presidency series of events. The Mayors’ Summit will be attended by global city leaders and discuss post-pandemic solutions and challenges in recovering cities.
The use of an integrated system between the JakLingko transportation system, sidewalk revitalization, operating electric bus fleets, and establishing bike lanes are among the aspects that will help the city achieve the goal of reducing emissions, he said.
Anies Baswedan explained that the pandemic has presented the city an opportunity to redefine itself by utilizing its experience in public transportation integration.
“Similar to the pandemic, we must live alongside the ever-changing environment caused by climate change. We must heavily promote mitigation and adaptation efforts to reach decarbonization,” said the governor at the G20 presidency on February 16.
The G20 presidency consists of two meetings that are held between February 15-18 at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in South Jakarta in a hybrid format for attendees. A total of 214 delegates are physically present while 175 G20 delegates attended the meeting virtually.
