TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian government as of Monday, February 7, officially increased the Public Activity Restriction (PPKM) from level 2 to level 3 across the Greater Jakarta Area (Jabodetabek | Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi).

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan on Monday said the central government has also broadened the reach of PPKM level 3 to Bali, Yogyakarta, and Greater Bandung.

“Jabodetabek, Yogyakarta, Bali, Greater Bandung will come under level 3,” said the minister in a press conference today.

He said the heightened restriction comes as a response to the rising number of COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals as opposed to the significant cases logged or low tracing. Luhut noted that the current restriction will be adapted to the latest COVID-19 variant and will vary from the Delta variant that spread last year.

A more direct policy will be taken aiming at protecting vulnerable groups such as the elderly, people with comorbidities, and those who have not been vaccinated. Minister Luhut also called on hospitals to only treat inpatients who are in critical condition and suffering from mild symptoms of COVID-19 amid the level 3 status.
