TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Jakarta Provincial government on Wednesday has sent an official request to the central government in an attempt to increase the capital city’s public activity restriction (PPKM) from the current level 2 to level 3. This comes after the city administration fears the spread of Covid-19 will worsen in the future.

Jakarta deputy governor Ahmad Riza Patria at City Hall said they have internally discussed such possibilities, “Whether it must remain as it is at Level 2 PPKM or level 3,” Antaranews reported.

“This must be discussed collectively as such a decision cannot be taken arbitrarily. The Jakarta administration suggests an increase in level,” said the deputy who acknowledged that the city has become an epicenter for the coronavirus spread.

Once the level 3 PPKM is approved, the deputy governor plans to activate the community-level task forces, distribute government social aid, and establish public kitchens in five areas.

COVID-19 cases in Jakarta as of February 2, 2022 reached 928,875 cases that are broken down to 41,974 active cases, 13,689 deaths and 873,212 recoveries.
