TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Statistics Indonesia (BPS) on Friday announced that open unemployment in the capital city within the past year went down by 2.45 percent (August 2020-August 2021). Deputy Governor Ahmad Riza Patria said this was due to the increased number of MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) amid the pandemic.
“This is thanks to the partnerships and collaborations from everyone. We should continue to support this and see MSMEs improve even further,” said Riza Patria on November 5.
He believed the dropping rate of unemployment meant the economic condition of the capital city had improved. He said he was upbeat the figure would continue to dwindle as the city was imposing the most relaxed public activity restriction (PPKM Level 1)
Previously, Jakarta BPS Head Buyung Airlangga said the drop in open unemployment came along with 78 thousand people being employed in the work industry. The unemployment rate has dropped by 2.45 percent to 8.5 percent.
However, he said that this was still above the national open unemployment rate of 6.49 percent.
