VP Ma'ruf Amin Hopes No More Extreme Poverty in NTT by 2024

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin hoped that extreme poverty in five regencies of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) would be completely eradicated by 2024.
“We hope that all regencies in NTT can reach zero percent [of extreme poverty] by 2024,” said Ma'ruf before reporters in Kupang, Sunday, October 17, after meeting with NTT Governor and regents of the five regencies.
The five regencies are East Sumba, South Central Timor, Rote Ndao, Central Sumba, and East Manggarai.
According to Ma’ruf, the extreme poverty rate in NTT reached 20 percent of the total five million population. “We hope the rate can be reduced to eight percent as in line with the national target,” he added.
Ma'ruf Amin also said that in the five regencies prioritized for the program in 2021, a total of 212,672 people in 89,410 families living in extreme poverty.
Of the figure, 17.47 percent or 45,550 people with extreme poverty rate were in East Sumba, 17.30 percent or 81,180 people in South Central Timor, 16.21 percent or 28,720 people in Rote Ndao, 21.51 percent or 15,820 people in Central Sumba, and 15.43 percent or 44,630 people in East Manggarai.
