Antam Builds Nickel Smelter in North Konawe

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Aneka Tambang (IDX: ANTM) or Antam seeks expansion by building a smelter in its mining concession area in North Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. The project is at pushing the downstream of nickel.
Antam's general manager for the North Konawe Nickel Mining Business Unit (UBP), Hendra Wijayanto, said that this commitment was realized through the signing of a Heads of Agreement for the Development of Nickel Refining Business, with Alchemist Metal Industry Pte Ltd and PT Gunbuster Nickel Industry.
"This signing was carried out in May, witnessed by SOE Minister Erick Thohir, Investment Minister/BKPM chief Bahlil Lahadalia, and the Energy Ministry's director general of mineral and coal Ridwan Jamaluddin," Hendra said on Wednesday, October 6.
This agreement marks the initiation of Antam's new nickel refining business ecosystem in North Konawe and North Morowali, Southeast Sulawesi. It is also a new milestone for MIND ID Group in maximizing the added value of Indonesia's nickel resources.
Hendra Wijayanto said that Antam is fully committed to implementing good mining practices in each operation.
