Anies Baswedan: Moderna Vaccine for People with Autoimmune, Comorbidities

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Moderna vaccine drive for immunocompromised people has been started at Jakarta City Hall on Friday, August 20. Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said the immunocompromised group conists of people with autoimmune disease and comorbidities.
"We want everyone to be protected quickly," he said in a written statement Friday, August 20.
According to Anies, Moderna clinical trial showed that it was beneficial for patients with lung disease, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, liver disease, HIV infection, and autoimmune disease.
Moderna used mRNA method in the making of the vaccine, which made it to have a high efficacy for patients with serious illness. "The mRNA method was found to be safe and effective for people with immunity issues, one of the brands [that uses this method] is Moderna.”
Anies asks the people to register online and attend the vaccination venue based on the set schedule. The would-be vaccine recipients must bring doctor's not stating that they are eligible to get Moderna shot.
This vaccine is specifically intended for those who cannot have vaccines from Sinovac or AstraZeneca, such as people with serious illness.
Jakarta Health Agency Widyastuti said the Moderna vaccine rollout has been running in 35 health facilities in the capital city. She informed that there are 200,000 doses of this vaccine prioritized for immunocompromised group. "But it does not rule out other health statuses."
