TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian on Monday has prevented Papua Governor Lukas Enembe from using the term "lockdown" amid Indonesia’s use of the term "COVID-19 public activity restrictions" or PPKM. He said this was necessary to prevent confusion.
“I have communicated this with the governor. The term we use is PPKM Level 4 or level 3, instead of ‘lockdown’ in its regional restrictions. People will be confused by the term lockdown and the public may not necessarily understand what lockdown means,” said the minister in a virtual press conference on July 26.
He said that the leveling in the PPKM system was much easier to understand than the other term that is used widely by countries around the globe.
“The levels mention sectors in detail and rigidly explain what types of activity sectors are restricted,” he said.
According to the Home Affairs Minister's Instruction No.25/2021, three regions in Papua are under the PPKM Level 4—the highest and most strict activity restriction in the PPKM—that consists Jayapura city, Mimika regency, and Merauke.
