TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) is currently questioning a number of officials at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport customs office, following the alleged smuggling of gold bars.
“Several officials of the Soekarno-Hatta customs office have been summoned,” The Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, who is also the director of investigation, Febrie Adriansyah, confirmed to Tempo on Thursday, July 1.
However, Febrie did not mention the identities of the officials, nor he revealed what the alleged crime is, and how much the State endured in losses.
“The investigation is ongoing, you’ll have to wait,” he said.
An alleged smuggling of gold bars from Singapore through Indonesia’s international airport Soekarno-Hatta was first mentioned in a House of Representatives (DPR) session with the House’ legal commission.
The legislator from PDIP, Arteria Dahlan, commented about the alleged smuggling as having a “thief in broad daylight.” He also believed that the 5 percent import duty and 2.5 percent import income tax for the gold bars were doctored.
Dahlan suspects that the alleged crime can potentially see state losses up to Rp2.9 trillion from a total amount of gold, which he claimed, valued at Rp47.1 trillion.
