IDI: Covid-19 Kills 405 Doctors as of June 27

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) recorded 405 doctors died due to exposure to Covid-19 from the onset of the pandemic until June 27, 2021.
“Based on the report as of June 1, there were 374 doctors [died of coronavirus disease]. From June 1 to 27, there are 31 more. The June report has not been included yet because the recapitulation is done at the end of the month,” said IDI Chairman Daeng M. Faqih on Monday, June 28, 2021.
Of the total number of deceased doctors, 210 were general practitioners, 159 specialists, and five resident doctors. East Java contributed the highest doctor death toll at 69, followed by Jakarta (60 doctors), Central Java (48 doctors), West Java (46 doctors), and North Sumatra (34 doctors).
Meanwhile, the Indonesian National Nurses Association (PPNI) said that until June 28, 2021, 326 nurses had died related to coronavirus infections.
“Most of the death cases [among nurses] are in East Java at 117. Then in West Java with 46 nurses, in Central Java with 45 nurses, and in Jakarta with 35 nurses,” said PPNI Chairperson Harif Fadhillah about the number of health workers (doctors and nurses) who succumbed to Covid-19.
