TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police Chief Gen. Mohammad Fadli Imran on Thursday said that the increase of Covid-19 case in the capital city is alarming. It has caused occupancy rates of hospital beds and isolation facilities to rise.

“Jakarta is currently not okay with Covid-19 cases constantly growing and patients admitted to hospitals also rising,” said the Jakarta Metro Police chief on June 17.

He strongly reminded residents of Jakarta to always implement strict health protocols and avoid adding the statistics of coronavirus patients.

Previously, the head of the Jakarta Health Agency Widyastuti revealed the three new Covid-19 variants that have been found in cases in Jakarta; Alpha variant (B.1.1.7), Beta variant (B.1. 351), and Delta variant (B.1. 617.2).

She explained that the new coronavirus strains have contributed to the case surge for the past two weeks. “The new variants are quite troublesome since they have their unique abilities to infect us,” said Widyastuti in her statement on June 15.

With a current 20,311 active cases recorded by Jakarta, the bed occupancy ratio also continues to rise. The Jakarta Health Agency recorded the city’s positivity rate at 18.7 percent during the past week.
