BTS Meal Attracts Large Crowds; Police Close McDonald's Gambir

9 June 2021 16:03 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaLong queues and crowds of people flocked to McDonald's as the fast-food restaurant chain launched today, June 9, BTS Meal, a special signature menu in collaboration with popular K-pop group Bangtan Boys or BTS. One outlet in Gambir was also crowded mostly by fans known as BTS Army.

Gambir Sectoral Police thus asked the operator to close the outlet temporarily. “We ask McDonald’s to immediately close its business temporarily and its online delivery service, so Gojek or other online taxi drivers will not be harmed,” said Gambir Sectoral Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Kade Budiyarta on Wednesday, June 9.

Budi said the closure was carried out since the restaurant’s capacity could not accommodate hundreds of people willing to buy the promotion meal, let alone help them to keep their distance from each other. Besides, online taxi drivers continued to arrive due to high orders.

“We allow business activities but while prioritizing the health protocols,” Budi underlined.

McDonald's Indonesia has launched BTS Meal with the limited edition food packaging today. The celebrity signature menu has been available in several countries, including Malaysia, South Korea, and the U.S.

Jakarta Traffic Police via its Twitter account, @TMCPoldaMetro, also posted photos of long lines of people in McDonald’s Puri Kembangan, West Jakarta due to the meal promotion. “West Jakarta Police Traffic Unit along with the Transportation Agency has taken action to break the Covid-19 chain,” tweeted the Jakarta Traffic Police.
