Religious Affairs Ministry to Determine Eid al-Fitr in Isbat

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Religious Affairs Ministry has scheduled an isbat meeting today, which is a meeting between Muslim mass organizations touted as ‘sidang isbat’, upon determining the first day of Syawwal or the that marks the Eid al-Fitr.
Religious affairs minister Yaqut Cholil Qoumas is expected to lead the meeting but due to Covid-19 restrictions will see the isbat held virtually while a number of attendees will follow strict health protocols.
Apart from the religious affairs minister, the Isbat will be attended by the religious affairs deputy minister, Indonesian Ulema Council, members of the Commission VIII House Legislators, and a number of Ambassadors from other countries along with representatives of mass-organizations.
This Isbat meeting will be available for public viewing through a live coverage by state-owned broadcasters TVRI as a tv pool and the religious affairs ministry’s social media account.
The Isbat meeting will be separated into three parts with the first to determine the position of the hilal (crescent moon) on the horizon by the religious affairs’ hijri calendar unification team and be followed by listening to the reports from teams conducting real time observation on the hisab method.
