Anies Baswedan Unveils New Face of Senen Intersection

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan revealed the revamp results of the Pasar Senen intersection area in Central Jakarta. He said the area that used to be considered a slum and prone to criminal acts had now been neatly revitalized.

According to him, the revamp was carried out by the Bina Marga Agency, Transportation Agency, PT Transportasi Jakarta or Transjakarta, Parks and Forest Agency, the Cipta Karya Agency, Spatial Planning and Land Agency, as well as the Central Jakarta city administration and locals. 

“Now Senen is back as an icon of Jakarta. It is no longer considered as a slum and crime-prone area,” said Anies via his Instagram post @aniesbaswedan on Monday, Dec. 14.

The governor, who is still under COVID-19 self-isolation, explained the Senen intersection was revitalized based on the scale of four priorities of road-based transportation development in the capital. The four priorties are pedestrians as the main priority, cyclists or non-emission vehicle riders, public transportation, and private vehicles.

The revamp, he added, included pedestrian paths, bike lanes, and Transjakarta busway lanes. According to Anies, the Transjakarta bus stop in the area has become wider and more modern.

The city government has also reconstructed the Pasar Senen Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) into piano stairs, while the Atrium Senen JPO boasts a Batavian style. 

“Both pedestrians are equipped with elevators. The construction of the Senen underpass extension is also enhanced with lightings,” Anies Baswedan said.
