Jakarta Bans New Year's Eve Celebrations in Tourism Sites

9 December 2020 21:43 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta provincial government banned tourist attractions, hotels, and restaurants from holding New Year's Eve celebrations that create crowds. The prohibition was issued by the city’s Tourism and Creative Economy Agency based on the Transitional Large-Scale Social Restriction (PSBB) policy.

The circular was signed by the agency’s acting head Gumilar Ekalaya on Dec. 7, 2020. “Tourism businesses that have been allowed to operate are demanded to abide by the prevailing rules and regulations,” as read in the first point of the circular.

The city administration also prohibited any activities on New Year's Eve that potentially attract crowds.

Each Covid-19 mitigation task force in hotels and restaurants was asked to supervise, as well as ensure there will be no crowds and public discipline in implementing the health protocols against Covid-19.

All tourism businesses were required to comply with the operating hours set in the Transitional PSBB policy, which was until 9 p.m. Jakarta also banned tourist sites, hotels, and restaurants from opening or holding events until 12 a.m. on New Year’s Eve celebrations.

“Jakarta administration will take stern action based on the regulations if there are health protocol violations.”
