Jakarta Cleans Up 328 Tons of Waste from Manggarai Floodgate

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Environment Agency Head, Andono Warih, confirmed that 328 tons of waste have been cleaned up from the Manggarai floodgate of Ciliwung River in South Jakarta, as of Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at 8 a.m.

20 personnel and 20 dump trucks were mobilized to collect the trash in Manggarai water gate, as well as three heavy equipment. “We have readied officers, trucks, and heavy tools since yesterday. The water level at 8 a.m. reached 740 centimeters,” said Andono.

The city administration had also tasked 10 officers at the West Flood Canal in Season City, West Jakarta. Five dump trucks and two heavy equipment were also standby in the area. “The dump trucks have three times collected the trash,” he added.

At the floodgate of Ciliwung River in Kampung Melayu Bridge, East Jakarta, ten officers were deployed, along with five dump trucks and two heavy equipment. “The condition in Kampung Melayu Bridge remains under control.”

Several areas of the capital city were flooded following extreme rain in Jakarta Greater Area or Jabodetabek from Monday afternoon to evening, September 21, 2020.

As of 9 a.m. today, September 22, Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that 56 neighboring units (RT) were still inundated with 10 centimeters to one meter of floodwaters.
