More Than 30 Companies in Bekasi Report Covid-19 Cases

27 August 2020 10:00 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaCovid-19 infection clusters in companies have spread in Bekasi Regency, West Java. There are at least 30 firms reported positive cases.

“More than 30 companies across the regency confirm their employees positive [for Covid-19],” said Bekasi Manpower Agency’s Head of Industrial Relations and Social Security, Nur Hidayah, in a press conference in North Cikarang, Wednesday, August 26.

Nur added that one of the clusters having the largest confirmed cases is PT LG Electronics Indonesia. The regency Covid-19 mitigation task force reported four new infections, bringing the total to 242 cases.

According to Nur, the condition is still under control despite the high number of cases since the increase is not significant. “There are only one to two positive cases in a company. But this must be suppressed,” she added.

Based on the inspection results in several companies, she went on, they adhered to the health protocols yet there were gaps leading to the emergence of new clusters, such as crowds during lunch break.

Besides, the potential Covid-19 transmission might occur during the employees’ trips from and to the workplace. In Bekasi Regency, there are at least 4,000 factories with over 1.5 million workers. Some of them live outside the regency.
