Mahfud Md: Govt Assures Djoko Tjandra, Jiwasraya Case Documents Safe

24 August 2020 06:32 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaCoordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Mahfud Md assured the security of case documents related to Djoko Tjandra, which involved prosecutor Pinangki Sirna Malasari, and the corruption of state-owned insurer Jiwasraya.

Mahfud made the assurance following the fire that broke out at the main building of the Attorney General's Office.

“The government fully guarantees that the case files being investigated by the Attorney General's Office, including the Djoko Tjandra case involving prosecutor Pinangki and Jiwasraya case are 100% safe,” said Mahfud in a press conference on Sunday, August 23.

Mahfud added that he would monitor the cases’ development. According to him, the legal proceedings must be transparent. The government, he underlined, would not falsify the cases, let alone hide other parties suspected of being involved in both cases.

“The government never had any intention of covering the cases, hiding the alleged suspects, and so on,” the former Constitutional Court Chief Justice remarked.

To investigate the cause of the fire, Mahfud Md explained, the National Police and the Attorney General’s Office would set up a joint post. The burnt buildings would also be re-built while abiding by the rules given it was classified as a cultural heritage.
