Garuda Indonesia: Clarification on Positive-COVID-19 Passenger

29 June 2020 07:00 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Garuda Indonesia president director Irfan Setiaputra on Sunday confirmed the news of one of its passengers reportedly positive for COVID-19 during a GA 682 flight from Jakarta to Sorong on Saturday’s flight.

“Garuda together with stakeholders continue to coordinate and conduct intensive communication on how to follow-up upon that incident to make sure that in-flight health procedures and protocols during the transition to the new normal runs at an optimum level,” said the president of the state-owned air carrier on Sunday, June 28.

According to the Garuda Indonesia president, each and every passenger flying that day had been cleared by the port health authorities (KKP) and the COVID-19 task force, which is the requirement for every passenger prior to boarding flights.

He further assured that the carrier always abides by the ‘physical distancing’ principle and claims that passengers jets only carry 62 percent of its total capacity.

Following the incident, Irfan Setiaputra guarantees that the carrier had disinfected the entirety of its fleet and the cabin crews that worked on that specific flight were subjected to self-quarantine.

In the future, Garuda Indonesia assures that it will enforce better health protocols to avoid such incidents from happening again.
