M 5.0 Earthquake Hits Pacitan in East Java

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Regency of Pacitan in East Java was struck by a magnitude 5.0 earthquake on early Monday morning at 02:33 Western Indonesia Times (WIB).
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) announced on its website that the epicenter of the quake was 107 kilometers southwest of the province with a hypocenter at the depth of 63-kilometers.
The agency reported that the shock was felt at a broad area and was felt by residents in nearby areas such as Yogyakarta, Bantul, Selaman, Wonogiri, Tulungagung, and Karangkates. The earthquake reportedly was recorded at III in the MMI scale, which can noticeably shake a household wall.
Despite shaking more areas than the aforementioned, the BMKG assured that the earthquake will not cause a tsunami.
